Gaia is the personification of the earth and of life. In Greek mythology, she is called the Great Mother of Creation. Her name translates to “land.” Gaia and Mother Earth are often used interchangeably. She is often depicted as green with a full womb, representing the fertility of the earth. Gaia was described as the nourisher of plants and young children. Even today, scientists use her name for the theory to describe the earth as a complex living organism.
Along with Chaos and Eros, Gaia existed at the beginning of time and is one of the primordial deities from Greek mythology. Ouranos, or the Sky, were lovers and created the unity of earth and sky. They gave birth to some of the most powerful deities to ever exist.
Grounding, walking with your bare feet on the earth is a direct connection to Gaia energy. Connect with Gaia simply by honoring the earth, working alongside her natural cycles, and making efforts to be environmentally conscious. Even in mythology, it is represented that what we put in the earth, whether it be waste or nourishment, has an effect on Gaia. Display this statue to help you remember that if you take care of the Earth, the Earth will in turn take care of you.
